I was in the speleology (that's caving/potholing) society at university.

You see some frankly f**king incredible scenes. And less obviously, hear some sounds you can never hear anywhere else - like the sound of underground rivers a mile away moving rocks heavy enough to send the soft *boom* sound of impact through the cave system. It is a very, very odd sensation. It's also very physically demanding, and a physical challenge, so good for fitness, and for learning to deal with stress and fear.

It's f**king terrifying a lot of the time tbf, but you know what they say about sometimes deliberately doing the things that scare you. Not bad advice that.
