very!

We hired a car, which was from a kind of rent-a-wreck place - it was a micra as that was all we could afford, if I went again I would prob splash a bit more for something more substantial as there were a couple of hairy moments on some gravel roads!

Stayed in a mix of hostels, couple of campsites - these were affordable and pretty nice but you need to book early.

I can't remember how much food was exactly (deffo expensive) but a pint was around ?8-9. We lived on pasta, just cooking in the hostels and getting tanked on duty-free gin!

Thing is though, I don't think anyone goes to Iceland for the food and drink - you go so that you can climb a mountain, stand on top and be surrounded by 5 glaciers. Or to kayak on a lake in daylight at 4am. It's an incredible place.

You can see some amazing things just staying in Reykjavik and going the golden circle stuff, but the further you go the more magical it gets.

My favourite place was User Posted Link You drive over a little mountain to get there (which has lakes on top like glass) and then drop down into this valley, hidden from the world. That fjord in the photo is where we kayaked.

The whole country is life-changing and life-affirming and well worth the slight privations caused by the expense.
