Windows Moviemaker Live sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls

I was trying to put together a little vid of a village event. Usual situation - hours of footage, needs to be edited down to 10 mins. I could use the old Moviemaker - you made clips, you dragged them onto the story board, no problemo

I find the "new and improved" version utterly incomprehensible. I have worked out how to split and how to cut bits into the right order but I'm buggered if I can work out how to discard useless footage or to save edited bits into separate films

So I download "Kate's Video Tool Box" after googling for best free video editing programmes. I can't even work out how to get the f**king thing to play a video let alone edit it
