It helps

when you have a team of mid table Premiership standard, that was badly used the season before.
A board who balanced the books properly to give you money to spend and kept as many of the important players as possible.

I think the board deserve some praise, they messed up by not acting sooner in regards to Hughton (No praise for that), however they handled the money really well while in the Premiership which has put us in an excellent position to get back up - As opposed to the last two relegations.
