No one person is bigger than their club, but

just what is it that owners want for their (not inconsiderable) investment?

You have to assume that they all want to attain Premier League status and reap the subsequent financial rewards. So when you hit upon a man with a plan that helps you achieve those goals, then surely you back that person and their methods unconditionally?

Well you would in ordinary business. However, this is football we're talking about. I think the obscene excess of rewards in playing top flight football make some owners lose complete sight of how it was they got there, and who around them were the ones that achieved it for the club.

Extraordinary goings on at Selhurst Park, and if I were a Palace fan this evening, I would be utterly and royally pissed off. Two days before the season starts, and their season has been thrown into utter confusion and chaos. If you're a level-headed person, leading a business, you should never ever find yourself in that kind of position that you put your business in jeapody.

You would like to think that owners and club boards act in the best interests of that football club. However your product is professional football, and quite why some suits think they know more about football having never been near a football pitch since secondary school is beyond me. If it ain't broke, why fix it? You've happened upon a set of people that have helped you achieve your wildest dreams, why would you want to dismantle that? It doesn't make sense.

Mind you, there's very little that does make sense in terms of football these days. The only clear thing emerging from this latest chain of events is that it's the supporters being short-changed yet again.
