I don't believe that - for start, no-one will let him in a break

so if he can win a mountain top stage, he can probably compete for GC.

Depending on the severity of the break, he could have been riding on a modified trainer a couple of days after the injury I guess (just using one leg). That would be enough to maintain the aerobic fitness he had built up for the TdF.

Just a question of how quickly he can get back his anaerobic form. It's a more time trial heavy route than normal though, so anaerobic fitness not so crucial as the usual muritos at the end of each stage.
