For what it's worth - Black Eyed Peas......
I'm a fan.... or I was until they released this latest song as a single.
I heard the first album before they became a Name Band and liked most of it - and wasn't surprised that they practically released all the great songs as singles and glossed over the rest. Where Is The Love and Shut Up are IMHO staggeringly brilliant pieces of work, jaw-droppingly good, landmark songs. So I was keen to get hold of the followup album.
Overall I found it a bit of a disappointment: whereas the standard is more even, it lacks the strong songs as much as the weak ones. But this My Humps really stood out as an atrocity. I said to my daughter "If they release THAT piece of crap as a single you can bet on two things: it'll be a big hit and the band will lose the largest part of their credibility".
Well I don't know how big a hit it's been: I hope it's a flop but experience leads me to guess otherwise. It's dross, a cash-in. It *may* be a statement - but if so, it's bloody heavy-handed and so gruesome as to make it impossible for me to actually take in the lyrics. It's foul, and I'm now deeply suspicious of where the band will go after it.
