Their patience and support is pretty key after the Hoots-affair I think.
It might not make sense but to a large section of fans, the fact that he used to be one of us seems to prevent them from being overly critical (eg moaney and loud about it) prematurely.
He might also feel more a tiny bit more passionate about helping us get back up again given his time here in the past, who knows - but I really don't see how this counts against him unless we were thinking of appointing another non-proven ex City player (eg Gunn, Megson, Grant, and now Adams etc - all great ambassadors to the club in their time as players, but management is a totally different ball game - one with Malky seems to be playing quite well so far, given our managerial budget etc)
