but I'm afraid you're almost certainly overestimating the amount of money we'll have to spend.

Even with parachute payments is a BIG drop in income. The wages of the current squad, even after reductions etc, will take up almost all the parachute payments. So I really really doubt the transfer budget be anything like ?7-8m on top of sale proceeds. It will be sale proceeds at best, possibly even sale proceeds minus a bit.
