Definitely, but SCC has got a point if you watch a flat stage but

If you get on a climb it's superb. The big climbs Ventoux, Alpe d'Huez, Tourmalet will get massive crowds and they close the roads off sometimes a week before the race comes through. The atmosphere is incredible. So I'd recommend going up to Yorkshire and one of the climbs (although they're not long enough to split the pack, they will be much slower. But if you can't get up there it'd be a shame to miss it so close to home. Its a good experience and the Publicity Caravan will keep any kids happy before the riders come through.
