The difference in milage will show up on them both
Many cars nowadays have digital speedometers and all sorts of paraphernalia. When this does wrong it can be expensive and it is often cheaper to buy a used dash from a right off or scrappy and replace the whole thing.
If anything looks suspect then don't touch it. Plenty more motors in the car park
