It's what Pants said. There's marketing terabytes and storage terabytes.

A storage terabyte, a real terabyte is 1,024GB. A marketing terabyte is 1,000GB, and that is what they print on the box the disk comes in. So you buy a "2TB" disk assuming you're getting 2,048GB, but when you plug it in the PC sees 2,000GB,
