I don't think the reasoning's hard to understand really
However unpopular and unconvincing Hughton's become, the focus has always been on the bottom line. As long as we could reassure ourselves that "our record's good at home - we'll win the games we need to there", he's been able to cling on.
That's why West Ham and Hull were both "win or you're sacked" games; we had to show that we could scrape our way to survival. And we did. But yesterday, we finally didn't: with added substitution wrong-headedness, players wandering around cluelessly and pure poison in the ground by the end thrown in for good measure.
Hughton couldn't then point to the Liverpool or Arsenal games and say "don't worry - we'll get the wins we need there", could he? Losing yesterday meant he ran out of breathing space altogether; heck, I had friends who support other clubs contacting me last night saying he had to go!
And Adams? Adams is the anti-Hughton. Popular among the fans, but the players too; he'll put a smile back on their faces. He'll build them up. He'll boost them. Unlike Bryan Gunn, he does have real coaching experience: and tactically, against Chelsea in the 2nd leg last May, we were BRILLIANT. Let's see if he can pull of something similar at Fulham - who are very, very. VERY shaky at home - next weekend.
It might work out, it might not; but we have a chance now. Saturday was the day I think almost everyone realised that under Hughton, we had none.
