After hoovering
In the background following the posts on the wrath for many a year I've finally decided to post...
Having been a big fan of McNally since the appointment of Lambert and the massive turnaround that followed, it's unfortunate, that now we're almost facing the inevitable that he and the rest of the board collectively have possibly missed a trick by not changing manager before Xmas, or at the latest in my opinion after West Ham away! Although this would of been a gamble that would've had to work out (it hasn't so far at Cardiff or Sunderland) I, like many of you, believe it would've done for us but now it's far too late. Right now the board will argue that we're five points ahead of the bottom 3 and if we are to believe McNally, then Hughtons remit was to keep us out of the bottom 3, which so far this season he has done! The board will know what the financial implications of relegation will bring more than any of us, but they will also know that they don't have to offer him a new contract at the end of the season which means no compo, no tribunals, no extra costs etc - so staying up or going down, this is a decision that won't take long. If we do gown then no doubt a selection of our 'better' players will want to go and probably will. If we are as financially shrewd as we are led to believe these days then most of the players should have clauses stating a statutory drop in pay, if and when relegation occurs and we should be able to keep hold of them for the Champ.
The majority of the players are decent championship players and no more. This is why we have suffered for the past two seasons, it's simple we just aren't good enough and lack the quality and confidence that most PL type players have. But, however, they are more ways to survive this league than possessing quality (as Stoke proved under Pulis for years) and it's up to the manager to make it work, old Hoots simply cannot make this work no hard he tries, it's clear the players either have strict objectives and are playing each week almost out of their comfort zones or they are just plainly not good enough. If we do stay up then we need not only to turf out Hoots but a number of the squad too.
Constantly relying on other results is s**te, we should be looking after our own and we can't. Hughton and the team deserve all the negativity they get at the moment especially when we are fed the dribble that comes out of the carrow road media circus like last week - 'we owe the fans' blah f@cking blah...this is possibly, for some, the only chance they'll get to play and manage in the PL for a long time and that's the sort of thing they should be telling each other, if they really care.
Sorry about the long winded episode, if we go down this will be my 4th experience of relegation in 27 years of following city! My next and last game of the season I'll get to see (due to work) is Liverpool at home where I'll be taking my seat up in the Barclay (I doubt without with me little happy clapper now!!) and hoping to see us produce some guts and desire...or else Mr Ruddy and co!!!
