The straw I'm clutching to

As our away form has lurched from disaster to apocalypse since the turn of the year (in my view, because Hughton's tried to respond to the fans and be positive, but we've looked way too open as a result), our home form has simultaneously picked right up.

17 goals leaked in our last 6 away games - 20 in our last 7 if you include Fulham in the Cup - has contrasted with 1 goal conceded in our last 6 home games: none at all from open play. It's bizarre.

I've seen this sort of thing happen in football before: compare Norwich's Aug-Dec 1993 away form with our home form, for example; or our home form under Worthington with our away form. It's as though doing one thing by necessity at home has an equal but opposite impact away. But it makes the West Brom game ENORMOUS. Very nearly as massive as the one last season.

On this basis, I think we'll beat them, lose all our remaining away matches, and survive by the skin of our teeth by getting something (maybe even a win) v Arsenal on the last day. But even if we do stay up, the year ends in '5' next season. Uh oh.
