I'll bite....There is not much evidence that fracking will improve UK energy security

The latest official figures suggest that the whole of the Bowland shale will only provide 13% of one year's UK consumption. And that is an upper estimate:

"...potentially recoverable resources of 1,800-13,000 billion cubic meters (bcm) by assuming similar recovery factors to the US, of 8-20%. This compares to DECC?s published figures of a current annual UK gas consumption of 77 bcm and potentially recoverable conventional gas resources of 1,466 bcm."

There are no overall UK figures but the Bowland is a significant formation and so it does suggest that the UK will not have a shale gas revolution like the US, which is what the government and others have said.
