Norwich City are keeping an eye on sacked Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay after piling the pressure on current boss Chris Hughton.

And the club would also be keen to interview Glenn Hoddle after he made it clear the Swansea City job was not for him.

Canaries chief executive David McNally - in a surprise remark on local radio - made it clear Hughton would get no certainties his job was safe.

With Norwich - having lost to then relegation-threatened West Ham - McNally said football was a results business whether as manager of chief executive.

He made it clear that everybody had to achieve what was required of them and that it would be wrong to give guarantees.

[football] direct news has learned exclusively that both Mackay and Hoddle are seen as candidates should the axe fall on Hughton.

Mackay was controversially sacked in December and has since been replaced by former Manchester United striker Ole Gunna Solsjkaer.

But we have learned that several directors are keen on Mackay although there are a couple who would love to see Hoddle brought in.

The former Spurs and England legend has told close friends that he wants a management return but that it will need to be "the right club at the fight time."

Many believe that City is the club which suits him but Mackay remains the favourite.
