I don't like the 'deny a clear goalscoring opportunity'
it's too ambiguous.
For example, Grant Holt a couple of yards goal side of the last defender on the half way line is not the same level of danger as Ronaldo in the same position - but they both are treated the same under the rule.
Red card and a penalty is ridiculous as well. Because a penalty is a clear goal scoring opportunity in itself, so a player being sent off hasn't demonstrably hasn't denied one.
