FAO SCC: we absolutely WERE pre-season relegation favourites last season and the season
Before that. Both times, I thought we'd get relegated too: I had us 19th before 11/12, 18th before 12/13. It was this season when I thought we'd be fine - ditto the pundits (with a few noteworthy exceptions) and punters.
But that's always been the great paradox about Hughton's time here. Lambert's Prem season felt like the most enormous continued progress. Hughton's first season didn't; it didn't feel like success, even though we ended up 11th.
But this? This is something else. In a bottom half this shocking, and with what we spent last summer, this is failure. One the board should've seen coming in late August; and by mid-October at the latest.
