Can only hope the club knows what it's doing, I guess...
I've actually been amazed at the lack of talk regarding a creative player or striker, never mind the lack of signings in general. But three quick thoughts:
1. Are we now in a Worthington-style Summer 2006-type sit-you-ay-shun, whereby the club haven't sacked the manager, but haven't backed him with the signings we need either? Mindblowingly idiotic if so: you can't hedge your bets in a league like this! A tightrope is being walked here, and then some.
2. My sympathies are broadly with Wes, but with the club too. We can't possibly sell him for the pittance that's been offered. But his treatment by two different managers of club and country has been a ridiculous disgrace: a gifthorse has been looked stonily in the mouth. And if other Premier League clubs want him, that really ought to tell our manager something.
3. In the spirit of being grateful for small mercies though, at least we won't be subjected to Doncaster in the EDP telling us "how we almost signed X - but it wasn't our fault that evil rival clubs were prepared to offer more than our bid of a packet of Walkers and half-eaten Nestle Crunch Bar. Modern football is just not fair - so I went to watch a Girls Aloud concert instead".
