A team/squad can't be weakened by letting a player go who isn't playing and has no prospect of playing and could potentially Be a disruptive Influence on other members of the squad.

It's a bit like saying we've been weakened by letting mcgeehan go to Luton on loan as we have one less body around the place despite the fact he had no prospect of playing for us this season.
