Hughton out?
I honestly don't think yesterday changes anything. We played poorly against another poor side who seemed to have settled for a point after about five minutes.
As for individuals, Jonas looks good on the ball, but he's painfully slow and that will limit his effectiveness. I believe we need some real pace to get in behind teams like Hull. I'd give Josh Murphy an extended run.
As for RVW, either his confidence has been totally destroyed, or he's nowhere as good as billed. He was dominated by two poor centre backs and it was interesting to see how easily Bennett outmuscled Judas junior. Against players like that I'd start Elmander every time, we don't need a Pele to outwit lumps like Alex Bruce.
I think we need to change the way we play, and with every game that passes it seems less likely that Hughton will provide that change. Which is tricky because who to replace him with? We've seen that men like Pulis, MacKay and Bruce are at least as equally negative in their approach, whilst being personally much less agreeable.
But what really worries me is this possibility: Hughton is an intelligent and decent man who has been around football at a very high level for all his adult life. He must know much better than me and the other 95% of the message board barrack-room lawyers who want him out. So the fear is that he is simply right, and actually this is not what failure looks like, this is what success looks like. If, in 5 years time we've spent our time scuffing around between 9th and 17th whilst playing dreary, frightened, unimaginative football then Hughton will have comfortably met his brief.
But I think I'll be long gone, because I can't stand his brand of football.
