I do think there is a case for just letting him concentrate on batting

He's not a great captain and I feel that several of the times we've let them off the hook (in virtually every test) when batting have been because we have not twisted the knife when in a dominant position.

That said any captain will struggle when all of his batsmen are out of form and the team is struggling to get more than 200 in any innings.
