Re laptops. I wouldn't bother with a large hard disk anymore. Would go for

128 or 256gb SSD then buy a cheap 1 or 2tb external storage device.

You will never regret the ssd. Boot up time and performance improvement is immense. I have a new MacBook Air but I know they can be pricey, but even my old one is from 2009, has only 2gb ram a a core 2 duo processor yet is still lightning and I use it as my day to day work computer these days.
