that the medical staff saw enough to believe that RvW was sufficiently recovered from the initial injury. However, as it had prevented him from training for much of the previous couple of weeks, he wasn't able to play the full game.

So yes, I do think a doctor would say to only play a player for a certain amount of time. In fact, I would imagine it is very common.
