I have to say that I'm guilty of that, too
Guilty of talking nonsense, that is: usually only on Saturday evenings through to early midwek, I hope.... I've probably been sending out mixed messages - but it's that mixture, unique to football fans, of optimism and frustration.
On the one hand, changing a manager for another, who may not be much better is a risky business. On the other, so is sticking with a manager who all too often doesn't rate the players he's just signed. We could soon see a midfield made up entirely of loanees...... assuming he doesn't drop them for Charlton.
No, he *can't* sign Prem quality - but he ought to be able to find decent championship players: ones who don't need to be loaned out to Plymouth. OK, that isn't really fair, some players don't settle.
Overall, though, I stick with my condemnation of the past week, in that he's made a colossal bollocks of the club's position - possibly caused by a growing belief in his own abilities. Yes, I think he's stayed too long. No, I have no idea who we should get in. Yes, I think we should pay him off. No, i don't think this will guarantee a turn-around - the squad looks a bit bloody thin for that, unless Hux and Deano turn it around on their own, and I'm not sure they're up to it.
As for the relegation fears - I can't see it, though that isn't to say it couldn't happen.
Question for Nasie and Coventry yellow in particular: we keep reading warnings on the lines of Look What Happened To Forest, which are fair enough - but Forest are a special case in that they've arguably overperformed more than any other club in English footy history. One remarkable individual, properly supported, made an average club into European champs, and at the same time created expectations that no club of that size could maintain - and maybe caused the crippling financial probs that contributed to where the club is now. Sorry if that didn't make much sense, I'm in a hurry.
I'm leaning towards the opinion that Cov would be a better yardstick to measure ourselves with - they were top flight for donkey's years, and AFAIK their money probs have been largely caused by the drop. But I don't know that much about the Cov, other than that they aren't likely to be back in the Prem for a long time, and I very much doubt that we will, either.
