It's like this: you're motoring but are lost and you have no satnav or road atlas.
With every mile you travel you become slightly more flummoxed. Do you keep ploughing on forward in the hope that everything'll turn out fine, or do you take stock of the situation and backtrack to the last place you recognised? There MIGHT be something familiar just around the next bend (though there weren't in the last ten miles).
It's a wonky analogy but it's as good as Mick Dennis', I think.
See, when we played Spurs, I went to the spuds fan at work and raved about how good they were. Subsequently they've appeared less impressive. Then I raved at the arse fan at work about how good THEY were, and they are, but they're not always as good as they were against us. Fortunately I don't work with any Man City fans.
We make decent teams look like world beaters. Why is this? Do we routinely stand off everybody, and if so, why? Is it about not being dragged out of shape?
Whatever the reason: it doesn't augur well for the possibility of sudden improvement.
Fuck him off as soon as his replacement has been secured. I've said it before: we'd be thrilled by the list of applicants if we go now. Three more moths of this and the list might be rather more depressing.
