i dont think you have to worry about it too much

but one take on it, which works ok for me, is that he's been sort of assimilated into the hotel (and whatever weird sort of stuff is going on there)

great film though. stephen king hated it by all accounts, he thought kubrick had messed it all up, but it's far better than the book for me, even if it might not make quite as much sense.
