well as I understand it, the official line

was that he thought he was getting a different job, wanted to leave anyway, and couldn't be arsed getting the squad and juniors together to say who was getting a new deal, who was being released etc. Basically, he thoyght he could just walk off and leave everything hanging.

I am by no means certain this si correct, mind.
