at least they played varied, interesting football....

And appeared to have a game plan that involved more than trying not to get beaten in every away game and a significant proportion of home games. Thus not leaving the fans with the prospect of nothing more to look forward to than attempting to go for the win in about a dozen out of 38 games every season. Then unsurprisingly when that doesn't come off like yesterday have the fans more on your back.
