Yes I get it's technically wrong, it's emblematic of the dumbing down of society at large
or something... and I don't use it like that. BUT if you're such an insane prescriptivist that you can't handle a little bit of hyperbole, then your life must be intensely dull. Thousands of the words we use every day have evolved in the exact same way.
Frankly complaining about misuse of the word literally is far more offensive than actually misusing it and is usually indicative of a certain brand of undue intellectual pomposity.
Now when people say yourself for no reason, that's another matter...
