Think he likes young players so he can mould them to think and play his way

whereas with a lot of (not all) top experienced players you find they are less willing to change and adapt because they have established themselves at a high level and feel their way is good enough.

For example, Bent was notorious for being a bit of a goal hanger and a player who reluctant to drop deep and join in with build up play, so that could be why Lambert felt the need to shift a guy who is only really confident as a goal hanger.

I think Given being ousted as Villa number one was due to Guzan stepping up after Given had a poor time at Euro 2012 which was then followed by an awful performance in the opening games of last season. He is a small keeper and heavily relied on agility, so his age and shoulder problems probably meant that his best days were over anyway.
