Like greeny said, what do you want to measure?

Just miles, cateye make good units like the Strada. Also, you got want wired or wireless?

You can get heartrate and cadence sensors for some, which is good if you want to do proper training (intervals etc).

If you're feeling flush, there are lots of models with gps too. Either for historical tracking of rides; some with preprogrammable routes and directions ; and some full on sat-nav types.

If you're toying with the idea of gps, try Strava on a smart phone to see the possibilities.
