PM Dandy, re satnav on your smartphone
I use the satnav on my xperia tipo now and then, but I'd consider buying a proper one anyway. Proper satnavs have only one function, and therefore need to be better at it.
My Googley phone thing recently refused to help me when out on a bit of a jaunt: it hadn't the first idea where we were. We were in West Wales, where the phone coverage wasn't up to the task - you probly won't have a similar probly in that London. The phone just couldn't position us and therefore couldn't begin to work anything out.
We found a little village Post Office, and I went in and admitted we were lost, and asked where we were. "O, this is Llachwallgwall" she said something like. "Oh, ta - what's the nearest big town, please?" "O, that's just up the road, it's Gwallchwallpllall"
So we decided to keep driving until we saw a sign for somewhere we recognised, which turned out to be Shrewsbury, meaning we weren't in West Wales but Mid Wales. A bit like thinking you're approaching Cromer and finding yourself in Stowmarket, I guess, but with lots more mountains around the place. If you're panning the odd expedition, don't trust your phone.
Mind you, if I still had a road atlas in the car, it'd have been different, but I trusted technology. (I bought a new road atlas. In your face, satellites)
