You don't (unless you're really dumb) start your career with a new club by saying something that can be seen as slightly derogatory to them ("I'd have joined QPR not you if they were still in the Prem!). That's just common-sense PR. Doesn't mean it isn't true.
The big attraction for Hooper is surely playing in the Prem as an English striker in a World Cup year (when pretty much all other English strikers are sh*t). If QPR could offer him that and considerably more money (which they would if they were still in the Prem) it doesn't seem unreasonable to suggest he'd probably find them more attractive proposition
