Ooh, do you know about plaster? Can I ask you a plaster question?

I'm going to go ahead and ask it anyway..

I'm buying a hoose (1900s ish terrace) and the survey said that some of the ceilings are lath and plaster and may be coming to the end of their life blah blah.

Now, is there an easy way to tell if a ceiling or wall is lath and plaster, or just plasterboard, without sticking a hole in it or summat?
