Squad of 24...

What do you reckon on the squad of 24 as of today then ?

GK: Ruddy, Rudd, Nash (3)
CB: Bassong, Turner, Bennett, Barnett* (4)
LB: Olsson, Garrido (no idea of who will start of those two though) (2)
RB: Martin, Whittaker (2)
CM: Fer, Johnson, Tettey, Howson, Hoolahan (5)
LM: Pilks, Surman* (2)
RM: Snodgrass, Bennett (2)
ST: Ricky, Becchio (2)

Which brings us to 22. Redmond and the Murphy twins are free as under 21. Asterisk denotes for now and I guess to be replaced. I suppose if the season started now, Ayala, and either Butterfield or Fox would be in there.

If we sign, as expected, 2 strikers and a CB then I guess it's the above with two more strikers in, and the CB replacing Barnett.

From looking at it I'm thinking we will prioritise one CB (cos it is Hughton after all) and 2 strikers (one proven, one talent) but it also shows we've got some room for an out and out left winger with pace, as well as another right back since both our RBs are also emergency cover for injured or out of form CBs (Martin) and LBs (Whittaker). I'd like to see us bring in either an upgrade on Martin/Whittaker, or a young RB to act as cover.

Then I think we'd end up with a squad of 24 players none of which we would be nervous at the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

Unbelievable transformation over 4 years especially if we can continue to do it without struggling to gel. Oh and just a childish side-swipe - I don't believe we have 1 player in our squad who wouldn't walk into the first XI at Ipswich. Possible exceptions of Rudd/Nash but only possible!
