I think fans ridiculously over-simplify the process of signing a player to be fair (fer)

There are countless variables at play - agreeing a fee and personal terms is just the tip of the iceberg. The clubs we're dealing with are probably waiting on their own transfer activity before sanctioning deals, not to mention the interest in these players from other clubs. There's also insurance to sort out and other such T's and I's to cross and dot.
