Amazing how much influence a late news item can have. First the news about us agreeing a

fee with Ajax which was current, then suddenly today Sky and the Pinkun / EDP finally ran the story of the interview he did 2 or 3 days ago, which of course is now out of context, and it's being repeated over and over again as fact that Alderweireld needs time to think about it even though we've agreed a deal with Ajax.

That's not necessarily the case. What he said, BEFORE the agreement was struck, is that he wouldn't count us out or say yes immediately but that for now he didn't have the feeling that Ajax wanted to get rid of him, so he was also happy to stay where he was if the right offer didn't come along.

What you can also read in to that is that he's dropping a huge hint that they SHOULD accept a fee because if they don't he is quite prepared to stay and serve out the remaining year of his contract and leave for nothing at the end of it.

The fact that it is being reported now, but as if current news, is rather distorting events I believe.

I'm fairly sure he'll leave Ajax. Question is to where.
