Warnock heh heh.............

Former Leeds United manager Neil Warnock has said in a recent interview that the departure of Robert Snodgrass cost him his eighth career promotion.

Snodgrass, the 25-year-old Scotland international who scored his country's only goal in a shock 1-0 win over Croatia last week, left Leeds at the end of the 2011/12 season to join Norwich City, for whom he scored four goals last term.

Talking to Sports Direct News, Warnock said: "We lost too many points in injury time [last season], and we lost Snodgrass when we shouldn't have lost him.

"We got ?3m for him and didn't spend it. A lot of it was down to Snodgrass wanting to go so late in the window - I had to take him off the training ground so he could speak to Norwich. If he hadn't have gone, I think we would have walked it. It's as little a thing as that."

Leeds, who eventually finished their 2012/13 Championship campaign in 13th place, seven points adrift of the top six and seven points clear of relegation - Warnock resigning with six games remaining.

Snodgrass' exit undoubtedly left a huge hole in the team, with the Whites left without a recognised winger for much of the season, but Warnock should surely have strengthened when it became apparent he was going to be unable to keep his star player.

Leeds struggled throughout the season with a scrappy, long-ball strategy that was often found to be too predictable. Even with Snodgrass, who was often played in a free-roaming position behind the strikers, Leeds were short on width, and it will come as a surprise to many that such a successful and experienced coach did not realise this sooner.

This summer, the Yorkshire Evening Post are linking new boss Brian McDermott with a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Kevin Doyle, although a move for Billy Sharp appears to have fallen through for the time being.
