i.e. they chose to 'go for' winning a cup while we deliberatlely sacrificed that to stay up.

Not sure this is true - Wigan took the same choice as us (and pretty much all Prem teams) - they played weaker teams in the earlier rounds (they drew at home to Bournemouth in the 3rd round) and played progressively stronger teams as they got to the later stages.

The only difference is that their weakened team didn't get knocked out like ours did (which it shouldn't have done!!!)
