Impressions from last night
The Murphys really could make it. It's not just the speed, it's the first touch and the close control. Some of the things they did were just breathtaking at times. It was a bit like having two Huckses, one on each wing. They run at full backs just like Hucks did, all menace and sway, asking questions the whole time. "Last time I went inside, am I going to do that again? UN-lucky mate". Beautifully balanced runners. Once they learn not to be have a go heroes every time, and surely the first team will knock that into them, they could be special. I don't want to hype them up too much because we all know how hard it is to make it from youth to first team, but they were great.
Who else caught the eye? The keeper, Price, made two or three first rate saves. The time he got a massive hand on the ball to stop Feruz taking it past him was Ruddy-esque. Our number 8 - not sure who it was, sorry! - looked absolute class as well, picked some fantastic passes. Cam McGheehan is not flash but runs the midfield very well, real maturity. (Terrible cynical Doc-style rugby tackle on one of their forwards for his booking!) Carlton the Brick Outhouse was great too, excellent hold up play and the proverbial good feet for a big man.
Of the Chelski lot, the right back (Ona Aina I think) was very impressive, as was their tall box to box midfielder (double barrelled name, Lucas?). Would expect to see more of both of them in future. Was happy Nathan Ane (? - the Ruud Gullit alike) wasn't playing - wonder why, is he in the first team squad for Weds? The much vaunted Charlie Colkett is a dead ball magician but not all that in open play on last night's showing.
Very proud of our boys, they were great and really deserved it
