Well Hughton and the board knew where Holt's head was at in the summer

when he was more concerned about making more money than helping the club secure their future.

I'm not saying that Holt shouldn't be blamed, but Hoots and the board decided to keep him on when they had the option to cash in on him when his value was at its highest.
