and if you feel like this, it's very possible a lot of other people do as well

And the new guy will know this on some level (probably won't care maybe), but they'll think the solution is to talk more about the variety of things that they do, to get your attention, or to let you know they are interesting

Worse for you, it's up to you, is you'll probably begin to notice over time, them copying you a little to get your attention, maybe even get up when you do, in order to catch you for conversation in kitchens or landings

It's a personality problem, but they'll never see it, they're just trying to talk to you, and you're the problem

I've lost count the amount of people from other teams that have come to talk to me, and what was meant to be an exchange for me, has become all about them. They never get it when said person walks off and comes back later to finish what they wanted to ask me

I just conclude that it happens at work, because it can't happen anywhere else, because people walk off
