When any bid we made would be ?300k and under. Then, after the ?300k bid had gone in for the player worth about ?1million, Worthington would say, "We've put a bid in, so we've just got to wait now until the phone rings and see what happens", and a week later he'd say the same thing, until realising the phone is never going to ring because there's no point even responding to that derisory offer.
