Tech help needed - Avast is stopping me download things

I just tried to download Java to my computer, and a box came up saying it was untrustworthy and the "community" have never heard of it. That it is rare. Java?

Anyway, this happens every time I try to download things. When I tell the computer to ignore avast, I get the blue screen of death.

Clues?
