Ceebees is correct, I use it daily when speaking Arabic.
It's of classical Arabic origin, not Egyptian as suggested by OG. He may have mixed up that it is generally reckoned to have found it's way into English slang via soldiers posted to Egypt. Nevertheless I will continue to use it.
