To misquote Paul Simon
"A man sees what he wants to see, and disregards the rest"
I believe that Nigel is struggling to cope with the stress, and is taking refuge in his unshakeable belief in his own genius. He looks at a floundering Charlton and sees Makalele. He looked at the ineffective Holt and saw a harrying midfielder. He looks at a seriously weak eleven and sees a top side. And he can take something out of four defeats on the trot.
He's kidding himself because he can't face the alternative - that he's f**ked it up and doesn't know what to do.
I didn't witness his 'upbeat' interview yesterday: but I'm hoping he was upbeat 'cos he thinks he'll be getting his payoff soon.
Me, I'd give it to him.
