Hughton and his defensive mindset

Yes I think he should have made a change in the midfield second half on Saturday, primarily because our midfielders all looked tired after an hour and we therefore lost a bit of our grip of the midfield.

Yes the fullback are not bombing forward as much as last season ( although it's nice not to feel we are constantly exposed down the wings).

However, in the last two home games (and to a degree at Spurs) I think we have created more good chances than I can recall us creating in any game at home last season. It's not like we are not attacking or getting into dangerous areas. We are also having the majority share of possession in games which was virtually unheard of last season and was an area we needed to address to alleviate pressure on our defence.

Lambert was a manager who gambled. Some would say he was cavalier at times. Those gambles often paid off but he also got things wrong at times. When he did get it wring we put up with it because he had earnt our trust over two seasons.

Hughton is clearly not so cavalier and we will need to get used to that but you cannot describe any of our last three performances as defensive. Had we had even a little bit of luck or our strikers hadn't suddenly forgotten how to score we would be on 7 or 9 points and all extremely happy.
