Fletcher fell out with the Scotland boss after criticising his selection and tactics for the 1-0 defeat by the Czech Republic in Prague that, by dint of the manager picking a team entirely bereft of forwards, instantly became infamous as 'the 4-6-0 game'.
The next time Scotland were due to play, Fletcher sent a text saying he didn't want to be considered for selection. And that's how things have stayed, with neither side willing to settle a spat over very little.
